renae katherine hufford
The small frame of Renae Hufford leaned against the side of one of the aqueduct's main support beams. Her normally straight hair was in a mane of curls today, flowing down in a random pattern of nothing. A soft wind blew through the valley, flicking the pages of her notebook around as she sat in silence.
A bag of licorice sat by her side, as she munched without interruption. Today she was trying to develop a skill for drawing, but so far her 'valley' looked like lines with a circular sun, that seemed like the work of a second grader. Frown lines covered her forehead as she frantically erased her 'artwork' before creating a large hole in the middle of her paper.
Mist settled over the camp, reflecting the golds, oranges, and pinks that coated the skyline. The fifteen year old's blue eyes darted around, deciding that art definitely was not her strong point. Renae had been trying to find a talent, and so far she had scratched many things off her list. Chess? No, not even checkers. Music? Her voice resembled that of a dying duck. Art? Maybe in second grade. Instead of bothering herself with more of her 'talent list', Renae decided watching the sunset go down was better.
Sitting in a tan cardigan and a pinkish purple shirt, as well as jeans, the demigod sat in silence. Renae could be back in the fourth cohort, but what was the fun in sleeping? You couldn't see things like this while sitting in the barracks.

Mckenna Mirren
Mckenna had spent most of her day in New Rome wandering. She stopped into a couple candy stores, grabbing some candy corn and marshmallows: her two favorites. Mckenna walked around New Rome eating her candy, and people watching. Walking down the Pomerian Line, Mckenna caught a glimpse of her friend, Renae. She could tell it was her by the big mop of blonde hair and small body. She shoved the bag of marshmallows into her backpack and ran towards Renae.
Slowing to a walk, Mckenna approached Renae from behind, hoping to scare her. She poked Renae in the back, smiling. "Hey," Mckenna made a weird face, doing ducklips and crossing her eyes. She smiled at Renae, laughing a bit. "I grabbed some marshmallows and candy corn from New Rome, if you want some." Mckenna held the bags out toward Renae.

Letting out a small shriek as a random face greeted her from behind, she quickly burst into laughter. For a split second she had expected one of the patrols to have come and told her to go to bed, but Mckenna was much better. "Gods, Kenna, scare me to death will you?" she asked, giving her friend's arm a playful slap.
Eyeing the bags of candy, the grin continued to shine over her features as she revealed her bag of licorice from the other side of her leg. "Swap?" she suggested, gently taking the bag of marshmallows from her friends. "How's it going?" Renae asked, raising an eyebrow as she shoved a handful of fluffy white marshmallows into her mouth.

Mckenna Mirren
Mckenna gladly took the bag of licorice from Renae. She grabbed a handful, eating them one at a time. "We had a sparring practice today. Where were you?" Mckenna shoved another piece of licorice in her mouth before reaching for a marshmallow. "Gods, we're gunna get so fat." Mckenna chuckled, before a burp escaped her mouth. That caused her to break out laughing. She nearly choked on her marshmallow, quickly chewing and swallow before saying, "Oh my gods, excuse me."

Swallowing her mouthful of marshmallow, Renae listened to her best friend. "We didn't have sparring today," she said with a small shrug. She didn't see Mckenna all the time now, being separated into different Cohorts. The Fourth was lower than the Third, and they didn't always have the same sparring time. However, when they did, she always preferred pairing up with her friend, just to make sure no one intentionally hurt her.
Laughing along with her friend, she popped some candy corn into her mouth. 'Fat with cats," Renae agreed, still laughing as she grabbed a string of licorice. She brushed a bundle of curls out of her face, watching the colors dance across the horizon. "Hey guess what I learned? Drawing sucks!" she declared, displaying her notebook with the erased hole to Mckenna.

Mckenna Mirren
Mckenna smiled at the "fat with cats." remark. She shoved some candy corn in her mouth. Mckenna hadn't really had the best week. Her entire cohort was being forced into intense training. She had sparring everyday for the next two weeks, which was awful for her muscles. Y'know, if she had any muscles.
"Oh, Renae..." Mckenna slowly took the book from her friend, staring into the hole. "What happened?" She held back her laughter, her bottom lip quivering. "It's...it's..different?" She closed one eye, squinting a bit. "Y'know, if you close one eye, it kinda looks like...a big white hole." She grinned at Renae, anticipating a slap.

Grabbing some more marshmallows with her spare hand, she continued to stare at her failure. She had been trying to find what she was good at so far, and this was all she came up with. A big white hole. Renae shot her friend a playful glare, the grin growing on her face. "It's obviously my best work, that's what," she replied a matter oh factly.
Laughing at Mckenna's reply, she shrugged once more. "No, you have to tilt your head to one side too!" Renae insisted, squinting and turning her head. "Then it looks like..." A white hole. "A sideways white hole," she muttered, amused with her work. "Apparently erasing frantically is hard on paper."

Mckenna Mirren
Mckenna shoved a combination of marshmallow and candy corn into her mouth. It was an odd taste and texture, that's for sure. The candy corn was easier to chew than the huge marshmallow that made her cheeks look like that of a chipmunk. "Well.." Mckenna gave Renae a look that plainly said "Isn't that obvious."
"So, you should go down to the Circus Maximus tomorrow during my sparring class. It's really awkward because, y'know me, miss social anxiety can't make any friends. I need a sparring partner for tomorrow so..." Mckenna shoved some licorice in her mouth again.

Chewing on her licorice some more, she simply smirked at Mckenna's reply. Of course it sucked, she knew that. If there was anything Renae wasn't, it was intelligent. She knew that well enough, but forgot sometimes. "Well, it does, just in case you forget," the demigod said, crumpling up her 'art' and tossing it into her backpack to the side of her.
Listening to her friend's request, the girl nodded. "Okay, sure thing," Renae replied simply. "I think we have class tomorrow with you," she said with a small shrug, tossing candy corn in her mouth. Swallowing the sugar, she noticed the sun was almost down. It was getting late, but Renae didn't really care. Curfew wasn't until ten, so they had plenty of time to catch up. "Anything else interesting?"
